On October 7 Hamas terrorists launched a surprise attack upon Israeli citizens – mostly Jews. The cruelty and barbarity of their actions shock the conscience and violate all the conventions of war. How can we understand such acts? What light can history help shed so that we might begin to grapple with the hatred and misunderstanding that runs amok in our world right now?
