Family Promise of the Mid-Willamette Valley (formerly, The Salem Interfaith Hospitality Network) is a consortium of 35 local churches that assists homeless families in the greater Salem community. Hosting rotates weekly among 17 host congregations in the network, with support congregations assisting. Each host congregation, in their turn, provides lodging, morning and evening meals, and hospitality to 3-4 families.

Family Promise is more than a safety net: Its Day Center additionally provides assistance to families as they seek employment and housing, including childcare, access to electronics, lodging for family pets, and more.

The goal of Family Promise is to empower families to help themselves: As families graduate to their own homes, Family Promise continues to help ensure family self-sufficiency by providing rent subsidies, household donations and life skills classes for up to seven months.

UUCS hosts 3-4 families at the church for one week, three times per year. Volunteers prepare meals, provide hospitality, or stay overnight. You can sign up for one or more of these roles.
