The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss, is an environmental allegory that pits a rapacious forest-destroying “onceler” against a fuzzy little “lorax” who “speaks for the trees.” But the deeper significance of this parable-like tale lies in the “Truffula Seed” he offers at the end of the story–the seed of “unless”–conferring resolution and courage in the face of an uncertain and frightening future.
