Coming of Age
Coming of Age is a special program for 7th and 8th graders.
Every two years, our congregation has a special program for UUCS youth in seventh and eighth grade who are exploring UU principles and their own beliefs. Our next session is offered during the 2016-2017 church year. Like many religious traditions, we recognize that this age group has many questions during this time of their life and we wish to help facilitate their transformation into adulthood.
Matching each youth with an adult mentor (requested by the youth and parents) our program offers opportunities to explore in four areas; Unitarian Universalist History/Religious Beliefs; Service to Others (at UUCS and the larger community); Personal Relationships; and Religious/Spiritual Understanding. As part of this program our youth meet with our ministers, work on community service projects and build community with one another through sharing and fun activities. This exploration culminates in a Coming of Age worship service where participants present their personal beliefs (credos) to our congregation.
Many in our congregation look forward to this Coming of Age Service and enjoy seeing the wisdom, growth and potential of our up-and-coming UUs.
