Microfinance Results in Peru

In 2012, the UUCS Microfinance Committee decided to focus on Peru. Our partner community is Chillin, a poor village located about 13,000 feet in the harsh altiplano of southern Peru. The main economic activities are agriculture, animal husbandry, cheese production, knitted woolen clothing, and ceramics. Cows and alpaca are particularly important for family livelihoods. Share The Plate December, 2015

At each Sunday service, during what UUCS calls “A Time for Generosity”, a receptacle is passed around to collect money. This voluntarily given money is then shared with organizations from the local community who have goals that align with Unitarian Universalist principles. December’s Share the Plate recipient is the Mid Valley Literacy Center.
