The 27th annual Salem Speaks Up! will be held Tuesday, December 10, at 7:00 pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 790 Marion St. NE. Doors open at 6:30, with time for people to look at displays by groups supporting the event. The date commemorates the 71st anniversary of the UN declaration of human rights. There will a brief remembrance of Rose Lewis, the founder and guiding light of Salem Speaks Up. A presentation by refugees new to Salem will follow, and there will be open microphone time for community members to speak about local human rights concerns.
The event is planned by members of the American Association of University Women, the United Nations Association, and the Marion/Polk League of Women Voters.
