Tabby cat walked by the front door on a Saturday and wandered in. People were there, which was unusual, lots of people and they seemed very busy. Tabby looked around for someone she might recognize (and possibly get some food), but with so many people wandering around it was hard to get anyone’s attention. She walked into the Sanctuary where that tall, lanky, grey-haired man hangs out sometimes, talking and gesturing to others who are seated. He wasn’t there, but there was this group of people in the corner, singing and laughing and singing some more. They all seemed excited about this “Storyteller”, who this one song was about.
This average size guy, without a lot of hair, was standing in front of the group, swaying one way and then another. She tried to get up close to catch the words, but some of the people shooed her away, never knowing how much her own voice could have added to
theirs. Tabby walked by a woman at the back, who was staring at a bunch of screens with no birds flying across, instead just pictures and words. They all seemed to need to get from one spot on the screen into another spot, one at a time, which then showed the pictures on the wall as well as on a stream they called “live”.
Another woman came up to the first and chatted. Apparently a “video” had been done as well and another person’s music was being incorporated with the slides. Tabby shot out of there as fast as she could, running into the Fellowship Hall where people were moving tables and chairs and counting bowls, and bringing in cakes. People working there ooh and ahh’d but Tabby was more interested in what the can opener was doing, and could she test anything for anyone?
Then, just when Tabby thought nothing else could happen, the artists came, they came with their statues, they came with their stoles, they came with flowers to put up on the altar. It all looked so nice Tabby thought, and then suddenly all the people were gone! But they came back the next day, Sunday, and brought tons of people with them! Everyone seemed so glad to see each other, but hardly anyone noticed Tabby. They all went into the Sanctuary where lots of people talked besides the tall, lanky guy. They sang songs, including the one about the “Storyteller”, they looked at pictures and video, and laughed and clapped and seemed to be having lots of fun. Tabby chased her tail to show she could have fun too, but they were too busy admiring the statues and stole and listening to stories. Afterwards they went into the Fellowship Hall and continued to laugh and talk while they ate clam chowder and cake. Tabby thought this might be her moment, so she went into the kitchen where already people were washing dishes and she tried to look as big-eyed and cute as she could. Finally, someone noticed her and going over to the counter, dished
out a little clam chowder just for her! It was so delicious and she felt so content that she went and found a nice little corner and curled up to take a nap, blissfully sleeping under a blanket of love she felt coming from all the people spending time together. –
Thank you all who helped to make January 15 a special Sunday for Tabby, Our own Ranger Rev. Rick Davis and all of us who are part of the UUCS Community.
We remain yours, from Behind The Chalice.
