Join us for a program of Italian secular and sacred music from the 16th and 17th centuries as the WOU Early Music Ensemble presents “Occhi del mio core.”
The event will be held Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 3 to 5 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem, 5090 Center St. NE, Salem 97317. The $10 suggested donation benefits WOU and UUCS music programs.
The theme of the concert is “eyes” (“occhi”, in Italian), and pieces include Luca Marenzio’s O occhi del mia core (O Eyes of my Heart), Stefano Landi’s Occhi Crudele (Cruel Eyes), and Orlando di Lasso’s O occhi manza mia (O eyes of my beloved). The ensemble will also perform sacred music by Natale Monferrato and Antonio Caldara, as well as instrumental music by Giralamo Frescobaldi and Giovanni Bassano.
The Western Oregon University Early Music Ensemble, directed by Dr. Dirk Freymuth. is a chamber group specializing in the music of the renaissance and baroque eras. The ensemble is comprised of four singers and four instrumentalists. Joining the group for this concert is special guest, Kimary Welsh Fick on recorders and flute.
