Supplies for Refugees

The UUCS  Social Justice in Action Team  joined Catholic Charities in April of 2016 to begin collecting supplies to help approximately 50 refugees who are settling in the Salem area. The incoming refugees are from multiple countries including Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Burma, and Syria. Examples of items needed: alarm clocks; landline telephones; pots/pans; cooking utensils; welcome/housewarming kits; toilet paper; cleaning items; back-to-school backpacks; health and hygiene products; interview-ready clothing for men and women; blankets; laundry soap; and baby diapers.  They are not currently taking clothing, shoes, furniture or Christmas items.  They may take furniture in the future.  Bring the items to the social justice table after Sunday services. This will be an ongoing collection until all the refugees have been settled (probably into the Fall).  To volunteer or find more information go to http://www.catholiccharitiesoregon.org or email Refugee@catholiccharitiesoregon.org.
