It is time to renew our Welcoming Congregation status. UUCS did the initial certification process in 1993. So much has changed in the past 23 years. The Salem Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS) asked the UUCS Board of Directors for permission to host the re-certification process. The request was approved at the August 2016 Board meeting. Each month there will be a documentary shown covering various topics, followed by a discussion if time allows. The re-certification effort will also include: a newsletter article each month, a review of the congregation’s efforts over the past 5 years in regards to worship and ministerial support for LGBTQA, education, community outreach and a review of the bylaws for inclusive language. The process will be completed in time for the congregation to vote on renewing our Welcoming Congregation certification at the annual meeting May 21, 2017.
Our first gathering will be on Sept 26 at 7:30pm – 9:00pm in the UUCS Fellowship Hall. We will be watching a to-be-determined documentary followed by a discussion. For the re-certification process to be successful, it is important for the congregation to participate.
