Combine a trip to a farm or to a park with fundraising for UUCS! Susan MacGinnis has wild blackberries on her farm, or you could pick at Minto Brown or other parks. As a bonus you can eat all you like as you pick! Call Susan for directions and crop information.
We need about 50 pounds of frozen wild blackberries for Pie Day, the weekend before Thanksgiving. On that Saturday, about 20 volunteers roll up their sleeves and put together 200 pies in 3 or 4 hours. It is fun and fundraising! We bake them and then sell them the next day as a fundraiser for UUCS.
If you pick wild blackberries, freeze them in quart bags (4 cups is about 2 pounds) and report how much you have to Vicki Cunningham. She can also point you toward people with freezer space if you have no room to store them. Extra fruit can be sold.
We already have enough Marion berries, blueberries, and rhubarb, and only a few pie cherries (12 pies worth). We have commitments for the apples and raspberries (to make rhubarb raspberry pie). If you want to be on the “Board of Crusteaze” to make the pies, email Vicki to be put on the list.
