Ease and Comfort

Do we need ease and comfort in our lives for spiritual well-being? In Buddhism, the middle way, avoiding the extremes of self-denial and self-indulgence, is thought to be the path to follow. Can ease and comfort allow for a personal sense of well-being, which can then extend towards the well-being of others through our actions?
