Behind the Chalice August, 2022

In the heat of the summer:

Hi all, it has been almost two years for Behind the Chalice. It started out during the pandemic as a way to keep us all connected while we were apart and having to watch services virtually. It was a way to let you all know what was going on to bring you the recordings, live streams and now gratefully the in-person worship services. The pandemic brought the need for flexibility and creativity and so many people stepped up to learn new skills and keep UUCS afloat and then to keep moving forward. Now we have a nice multi-platform as they call it these days, both live stream and in-person. With two hundred thirty-three subscribers on our YouTube channel and between fifty and one hundred people coming on Sundays, we are doing okay. From the little bit I gathered at GA this June, our congregation has weathered the pandemic well, in part this is because of the people Behind the Chalice who keep showing up every week to fulfill the mission of: “create a welcoming, compassionate, and inspiring spiritual community.”

This past year we have been learning a little about the different folks from Behind the Chalice, and I hope we can continue to learn about new people who have joined creating the weekly Sunday Worship Service, such as the Homilist/Storytellers and a new addition to the Production Committee. For August, we hear from Janet Stevens:

My position: I am a celebrant

What I enjoy: I am grateful that the members of our congregation for allowing me the

opportunity to share my thoughts and to offer my ideas during the service.

Where I go to revive: Into the forest and up mountains.

We all hope you are enjoying the summer, both the cool and the heat we have had and we hope to see you soon on a Sunday morning. Until then, we remain, yours in service,
