I grew up in the suburbs of Seattle. I was a latchkey kid before the word was invented. Once I graduated from high school I went to work for Boeing and made enough money to pay my tuition at what is now Western Washington University. I continued to work for Boeing on summer breaks through college. After college I began a new chapter in my life —getting married, moving to Salem and starting my teaching career. I was in the classroom for twelve years before transitioning into guidance and counseling, then finally administrative experience when I took a position in Vancouver, Washington after completing a thirty year career in Salem.
Carolyn and I will celebrate our 54th anniversary in August, 2017. I’m not sure whether to attribute that to tenacity, patience or the fact I have a very forgiving partner. We have one daughter who lives in Scappoose with her husband and 11 year old daughter.
Like so many others in our congregation, I struggled to find a spiritual path that I could live with and not feel hypocritical. After years of searching we found our spiritual home here at UUCS. Both Carolyn and I have been involved with a variety of projects and teams that are essential for our congregation to flourish. We’re both involved with other community volunteer activities but give UUCS our priority.
