The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem, Oregon is a religious home for those who seek a religious community that will accept and honor you as you are. Spiritual and religious coercion is not our way. Rather, we provide a community where we support and encourage one another in our continuing spiritual, intellectual and personal development.
We draw from many sources of wisdom and understanding, including world religions, the arts and sciences, personal insight and the inspiring examples of others.
Members come from a variety of religious and nonreligious backgrounds, and we find this diversity to be a source of inspiration and delight. While we are serious about our never ending quests for wisdom, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. We like to laugh and love and be of support to each other during times of need. We strive to create a compassionate community that includes all and excludes none.
One of the defining features of Unitarian Universalism is our recognition that religion should be concerned with more than personal transformation and growth. There is much poverty, violence, injustice, indifference and environmental degradation in our world and thus we acknowledge our responsibility to do all that we can to bring about positive change. We have a strong commitment to social justice and we seek to find ways that we can be of service to our community and the world.
