The Social Justice in Action Team of UUCS is planning a trip to the Northern Oregon Regional Corrections Facility (NORCOR) in The Dalles, Oregon on April 28, and invite you to join them. They are working closely with the Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMirJ). Once there, they will join others to hold a vigil at the facility. A chartered bus will leave UUCS at 8 am and be back in Salem by 6 pm. There are still seats available on the bus. To ensure you get a seat, email Michael Pollard at   mpollard608@aol.com. For years, two Oregon jails have aided Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) by housing detainees who face deportation. Jail officials say it’s legal despite a sanctuary state law designed to make immigrants feel at ease.

Over the month of April, IMirJ will be rolling out a campaign to get Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) out of NORCOR. Working with immigrants who are or have been detailed, local organizers, and clergy in the Gorge, and faith communities around the state will be amplifying the voices and stories of those who have been detained as well as participating in a series of education opportunities and escalating actions. The campaign will lead up to a statewide convening at NORCOR in The Dalles on Saturday, April 28 to mark the one year anniversary of the first hunger strike there. Mark your calendars!
