Preserve Oregon’s Sanctuary Law

No IP 22On May 20, 2018, at the UUCS annual congregational meeting, members voted to support a resolution “UUCS Supports Stop IP 22 Efforts”.

Activists affiliated with Oregonians for Immigration Reform have filed Initiative Petition 22 with the Oregon Secretary of State’s Elections Division. IP 22’s goal: to place a measure onto the November 2018 statewide ballot that would repeal ORS 181A.820.

Since 1987, Oregon Revised Statute 181A.820 has has effectively rendered Oregon a “sanctuary” state for undocumented non-citizens.

The Social Justice in Action Team of UUCS is helping with the  fight to have Oregon voters vote NO on IP 22 in November, 2018. This is in keeping with the May 2017 vote by the congregation supporting UUCS taking steps to become a sanctuary congregation.

Please stop by the SJAT information table in Fellowship Hall after Sunday Services to sign a form pledging that if asked, you will not sign the ballot initiative and if IP22 is on the ballot, you will vote NO.
